Code of Conduct
St. Johns Summer Swim League Code of Conduct
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to maintain the high level of character, sportsmanship, and positive reputation of the St. Johns Summer Swim League (SJSSL). These guidelines help create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all swimmers while promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship. By joining the team, swimmers and their families agree to follow the expectations below.
General Expectations
Swimmers are expected to represent the team and league with respect and good sportsmanship at all practices, meets, and team events.
- Alcohol, drugs, or tobacco use by swimmers may result in suspension or removal from the league.
- Harassment, intimidation, or bullying will not be tolerated.
- Swimmers and parents may not interfere with another swimmer’s progress during practices or meets.
- Swimmers must attend at least three (3) swim meets to be eligible for the Championship Meet.
- All swimmers and families should help maintain the positive reputation of the SJSSL within the community.
Expectations at Practice and Meets
Swimmers must:
- Follow all pool rules and safety guidelines.
- Listen carefully and follow instructions from coaches and meet officials.
- Use respectful language and behavior.
- Treat equipment with care.
- Remain with the team during practices and meets unless given permission otherwise.
Coaches & meet officials have final authority regarding conduct in the pool area.
Disciplinary Procedures
Disciplinary action may occur for behavior such as disrespect, profanity, disruptive conduct, vandalism, violence, or violation of team or facility rules.
Possible actions include:
Level 1: Verbal warning from the coach and possible removal
from practice or the meet for the day.
Level 2: Swimmer is sent home and must meet with
the coach with a parent before returning.
Level 3: Immediate suspension from the team. The
length of suspension will be determined by the coaching staff and Recreation
Center staff.
Coaches and the Board may apply any level of discipline based on the severity of the situation, and steps do not need to occur in order.
