Notes from Coach Susan

Hellooooooo Hammerheads!

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend and I hope the 9-12 age group did their homework on the meaning of Memorial Day!  Some important info as we head into the thick of swim season:

Please RSVP for this weekend's meet ASAP: if your swimmer will be missing this weekend's meet, please follow the directions on the website's home page to let me know so I don't put them in relays. Once the RSVP feature closes, you'll need to text me at 904-945-6564 (put this in your phone & save it).

Morning Practices: start Wed. May 30th.  8&unders are first in water from 7-8a.m., 9-12 age group swims from 8-9 a.m. and 13&up swim from 9-10 a.m.  Please come 10 min prior to stretch.  Bring water bottles also as the temperature & water heats up and don't forget to eat breakfast!  This means an early bed time!

Meet Morning Illnesses:  if your swimmer becomes sick the night before or the morning of a meet, please text me (whatever time - my phone is on silent at night) so I can start looking for subs.

Volunteer Spots:  If you can't make your volunteer spot, please ask another swim parent to fill in for you and swap out with them later.  It is important we have all our spots filled to make the meets run smoothly.

Watching your Swimmer: If you have young swimmers, please drop them off at the ready bench to get lined up for their events (when they are called).  Parents can then go to the end or sides of the pool to watch the events.  Only working volunteers, swimmers, coaches & jr. coaches are allowed behind the blocks during meets.

Swim Meet Timeline:  I will send entries to the other team on Wednesday, Heat Sheets will come out Friday (along with entries by name), swim meet Sat. morning, results by Sunday evening, and ribbons in the ribbon boxes at practice by Wednesday.  (all of this contingent on the busy schedules of our awesome volunteers who run the computers and print ribbon labels)

Extra practices:  if the afternoon weather allows, I encourage your swimmers to get in some extra laps in the afternoons.   The hour in the water is usually a lot of technique and stroke work so they can use some extra distance swims to build endurance.

Swim Videos: A great way to learn is watch some of the stroke technique of our Olympic swimmers.  Often the videos will show underwater shots of streamlines, dolphin kicks, etc.  Good activity for rainy afternoons.

See you all tomorrow morning, bright and early!!! Gooooooooo Hammerheads!
