The Ugly, The Bad, and the Good .... 2020

Helllllooooooo Hammerheads!
Well, Hammerheads, this is Coach Susan.  First, I hope all of our Hammerhead families are doing well and able to find small joys to celebrate every day.  Life as we knew it is changed but we go forward with Faith and Trust and work to make the most of each blessed day!   I know many of you have been waiting to hear about our season:

The Ugly:  my unshaven legs (I haven't left the house in a month), my shaggy hair (desperate need of a hair cut - good thing I let the color go natural a few years ago!), my house (no visitors means I don't have to clean) and my waistline (way too many quarantine snacks!  Why didn't Costco put a limit on their snack items the way they did on paper products!?!

The Bad:   After much consideration, the St. John's Summer Swim League Board has decided to cancel this summer's league season.  There are just too many unknowns and the safety of our swimmers, coaches, volunteers, and families has to come first.   There will be no dual meets and no Champs this year.  The league is still looking to proceed with the scholarship program and I'll be reaching out to our seniors.   This was not an easy decision but I stand by their thought process (but still shed a few tears).

The Good:    The Hammerhead board volunteers met last night and they know you want to SWIM!  We are writing a proposal to the CDD to have a 6 week season (June 9 - July 18).  Since you all cleared your vacation calendars for Champs anyway, we are hoping to do 6 weeks of practice (our regular 4 mornings per week) and then 1 fun Hammerhead swim meet on July 18th.  That would be followed by some fun "banquet" activities after meet clean up.   Other teams are hoping to do something similar and we may even be able to have a "virtual Champs" if each team will submit their results we can put them all together and see how y'all did!!!

We of course need to propose this, work out logistics, and have it approved.  We will keep you posted!  Each neighborhood's CDD will have to look at the government timelines and do what is best for their residents' safety and enjoyment.

In the meantime, for families who have already registered:  we have submitted requests for full refunds via SwimTopia & WePay.  You should be seeing that soon.  If approved for a shorter season, we will open a new registration with adjusted fees and info.

Hammerheads.... you all have been my summer "family" for so many years and I look forward to it all during the off season!   Not seeing you this year would break my heart!   So I will keep thinking positive thoughts, praying, and will keep my fingers crossed that we will be able to have a safe and fun, albeit shorter, season!

Be well, be happy, be kind, and be thankful.... and most of all....

Goooooooooooooooooo Hammerheads!
