We’re Baaaack!
Hiiiiiii Hammerheads! Are you still singing the Jeopardy theme song? Finally some great news to celebrate!!
Last week the CDD approved a modified swim season. While it will be much shorter than normal, one month only, and smaller (limited to 60 swimmers) the Hammerheads will be back in the water starting Tuesday morning June 23. We’ll finish with an end of season event on July 18. There will be no dual meets against other teams. However we’ll learn some new drills, practice some fancy turns, and have lots of fun!
The volunteer Hammerhead Board met and discussed lots of points. Safety of swimmers and coaches will be priority. As such, we will have a limited number of spots (60) for the team this year so that we may maintain social distancing. Registration forms are being tested at this point. We will send an email to all previously registered Hammerheads, with the links, on Tuesday morning. If slots remain by Thursday, we will open registration up for new Hammerheads.
IMPORTANT: We will have three practice groups/registrations. The first group will practice four days per week from 7-8 am. This will be for our older Hammerheads as well as 11 and 12-year-olds who may be experienced swimmers, or practiced with the third group last summer. There will be only 20 spots available.
Our other two practice groups will also be limited to 20 swimmers per group and will practice two days per week. You will be able to choose either Tuesday & Thursday or Wednesday & Friday. These groups will practice from 8-9 am. These will be mixed age groups and we will tailor workouts to various lanes.
Because coaches will not be in the water with swimmers we ask that only swimmers who can currently complete one length of the pool, independently, sign up this summer. We realize we are a developmental team but due to restrictions this summer our learning to swim swimmers will need to seek separate lessons.
Each swimmer will be asked questions and have their temperature taken before entering the pool area each morning. Swimmers must be able to understand , and follow, social distancing rules given by the coaches. Swimmers will need to change their clothes and stretch at home prior to coming to the pool. Parents will not be allowed on the pool deck as we are limited in numbers.
No caps will be offered this year and t-shirts will not be included in the registration, but they will be available for purchase. There will be a mandatory COVID-19 form that will need to be printed and turned in the first day of practice.
We know this has been a weird time for everyone and the Coaches have missed the swimmers! We pray you are all happy and well!
We completely understand if you are just hanging out with family members this summer and limiting your contact. You can still drive by the pool and honk at me on deck, or wave as I’m running with the morning workout crew! We hope next year we’ll be back to normal and bigger, stronger, and faster than ever!!
Gooooooooooo Hammerheads!
Coach Susan
